Music at Second Baptist Church

Our choir enjoys singing together! There is a fellowship and camaraderie among our volunteer singers. We sing from a wide variety of choral music traditions. We are always looking for new members - come join us!

The choir rehearses on Thursday nights from 7-8pm September - May. We also meet again each Sunday morning from 8:45-9:15am to polish the anthem to be sung in that morning's service. If you have any questions about our choir, e-mail Brad and Marilyn Short.

Marilyn Short has been the Music Director since 2006, having served as the organist and choir accompanist since 1999. A member of the American Guild of Organists, Marilyn is also the staff choral accompanist at Webster Groves High School. Marilyn has accounting degrees from Kansas State University.

Brad Short began directing the Second Baptist Church choir in 2006. He is a long-time church musician who first started singing alongside his mother as a soprano. He is also a librarian at Washington University. Brad has music degrees from Kansas State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Second Baptist Church features a historic 38-rank pipe organ with three manuals. Originally installed by the Odell Company in 1879, the organ has moved with the church and now resides in its third location. It has nearly 3,000 pipes, ranging in size from 2 inches to 18 feet in length and is a highly regarded organ in the St. Louis area. The organ was rebuilt by the Moeller company in 1941 and has been played by many world-famous organ recitalists, including Alexandre Guilmant, E. Power Biggs, Virgil Fox, Marcel Dupre, and Howard Kelsey (Second Baptist Church organist 1944-1958).
